News about the construction of a highway in Northern tanzania that is supposed to transect the Serengeti National Park at the northern tip of the park sparked alot of outrage from safari ethusiasts and travel industy stake holders world wide. It was by no surprise because the Serengeti National rpark which is also the larges and oldest national park in Tanzania was declared a world heritage site by the UN body UNESCO. This therefore means that the park is "owned" by the world and therfore under the watch of the world at the highest level.

The president of Tanzania has ensured the world in a statement released by the government that he is has 'no plans to kill serengeti' and clarified that the tamarc road that is supposed to be costraucted by his goverment will indeed cross teh Serengeti National Park, but the section that croses this world heritage site will not be tarmaced. Only the Sections that are outside This 'world heritage site will be improved to bitumen standards but the sections within the parks boundaries will remain gravvelled.

The road has caused alot of outcry from people allover the world. Serengeti National park is the scene of the annual wildebeest migration and is the epicenter of Safari in Tanzania.
