Beyond Serengeti and Ngorongoro

Safaris in Tanzania – Not only a Serengeti and Ngorongoro affair. Is what a Safari in Tanzania should be, if travelers were advised properly. I don’t blame travelers anyway…

When any one in the world starts contemplating on an idea to do an African Safari in Tanzania what comes to his/he mind is visiting Serengeti National Park and the largest unbroken Caldera and Natural Zoo , The Ngorongoro Crater.

The second thing that comes to mind is  the “am I going to see Mt Kilimanjaro” mega question. Yes you might see Kilimanjaro if it is clear when you arrive in Tanzania’s northern region.

Then another thing that comes to mind is if there will be enough time to visit the Spice Island of Zanzibar. The island is Great.

Unfortunately even for most Safari experts when a traveler requests for safari in Tanzania what comes in their minds is offering the traveler a visit to Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater then the rest will depend on the availability of time. This has made the two highlights of the Tanzania safari so crowded and touristic. Day by day the two major attractions of a Tanzania safari are becoming (un wild).

Of course some few travel experts in Tanzania have increasingly been embracing the idea of offering the Southern Tanzania Circuit day by day. This has not only resulted into a rise in number of Safari outfitters in Dar es Salaam but also accommodation properties , budget and luxury alike have been on the increase in Southern Tanzania.

So where is Southern Tanzania? What is there for Tourist?. Southern Tanzania in terms of national Parks in Tanzania, refers to Selous; the largest game Reserve in the world, the Ruaha National Park, Mikumi National Park and now the Saadani National Park where the bush meets the bush. It is a good idea because that is de-congesting the National parks at the Northern circuit but also have been offering the travelers a real African wilderness experience in the un-spoilt South.

Do you have to travel south to be in uncrowded parks?. One would ask. Well the Northern Circuit has some Undiscovered little gems that are either ignored or under rated.

Little gems that matters..

The Arusha National Park.

Arusha National Park Canoeing
Arusha National Park Canoeing

This little gem is a less than a hour from Arusha town yet it is wild and active. The best park in Northern Tanzania for the travelers who would like an active safari in Tanzania. Game drives, Guided walking safaris, hiking and more on that; Canoeing in the Momella lake makes this small park standout.

SO unnoticed ? or ignored?… Whatever but the Arusha National Park is worthy a day out or two days and one night out and no one will regret ..

Mkomazi National Park.

Undiscovered gem. That is how we can describe the Mkomazi National Park. Until recently the Mkomazi National park was a game reserve where human activity was allowed. After the full gazettement of the park there have been some very interesting introductions of the rare species. There has been an introduction of the African Wild dogs and the Black Rhino. These rare species will spice up the park and it is going to be a Gem in the Northern Tanzania.

When planning you next Safaris in Tanzania remember to request for the two little gems that are either undiscovered or often ignored. Your Tanzania safari will never be the same again!
